What is Fat Tuesday?
The French name Mardi Gras translates to Fat Tuesday. It comes from an old tradition of parading a fat ox through the streets of Paris on the Tuesday before Lent begins. It was to remind people not to eat meat during Lent, which is the 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter.
The Modern Interpretation is "PARTY!"
In New Orleans, they know how to have FUN with parades and parties all week long. Beads and coins are tossed from parade floats and everyone dresses in masks and costumes!
Bring the Party Home!
Celebrate Mardi Gras with a FUN family dinner. Wear colorful beads, hide chocolate coins under your dinner plates and don't forget to serve a King Cake for dessert! |
